Condensed matter experiments aim to explore the underlying properties of matter by using different measurement techniques. These techniques are employed to obtain information on different properties of materials, such as electrical, magnetic, thermal, and optical properties.
The results obtained from experiments are then analyzed to determine whether they align with the existing theoretical predictions. When the experimental results agree with the theoretical predictions, the theory strengthens. However, if the current theoretical framework cannot explain the experimental results, it indicates the need for a new theory to understand the physical properties of the studied materials.
The Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM) technique is utilized to investigate the surface of materials at the atomic level, where a probe tip scans the surface of the material with a distance of less than 1nm. The electronic properties of the material are deduced from the tunneling electrons that quantum-mechanically tunnel between the tip and the material.
Our laboratory's primary objective is to investigate unconventional electron correlation in topologically non-trivial materials that are composed of single crystalline and hetero-structured 2D materials.
